Are You Ready For This?

New Diet, New Workout Plan & New Outlook

Today is the beginning of what I hope to be a successful journey to the Novice competition. Sam, my bf and trainer, has made a new workout program for me to follow, as well as making a new nutrition program.

Because I was reset after this weekend, he started me off with shoulders/arms. Did some exercises I have never done before and every much enjoyed it. It is somewhat of a challenge. Bring it on buddy. I'll see how the next couple of days go. Tomorrow is chest.

As for nutrition, I hope he makes it a bit flavourful. I cannot do without my spices and of course WALDEN FARMS. He is also going to add in BCAA's (which if you don't know are branch chain amino acids). If you want to read up on them here is the link: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/bcaa.html

Areas that I need to work on for the competition are: my abs, lower back, glutes & legs. The definition just needs to be brought out a bit more.

With the competition coming up, it really got me thinking. Should I or shouldn't I enlist the help of a pre-contest business? I am still debating. I know it would be beneficial but at the same time the cost is not ideal.

I'm meeting with a couple of people this week, which I am super stoked about. But that's another story.

Until next time...

Success & High Fives All Around

First and foremost I want to acknowledge my amazing trainee for losing pounds and body fat with an increase of water intake. I cannot express enough as to how proud I am. Like a momma bear seeing her cub grow...awww. At week two and is most likely on her way to her goal weight by early January, which I am ecstatic about (since her deadline is spring 2011).

As for myself and my training, I have to say that I am probably in the best shape I have ever been in my life. My 4 pack is coming up slowly to the surface. My muscle bellies are getting larger. My back is becoming more defined. And it all has to do with the two most important factors in getting in tip top shape: nutrition and exercise. People sometimes don't know this so I am going to say it again, you need both in order to lose weight/build muscle. You can't have one without the other if you want to see those amazing results.

I was browsing around at the health food store and found this AMAZING product, which I now use on a daily basis: Bragg Liquid Soy Sauce Seasoning Spray. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this product. The only two ingredients are soy beans and purified water. It is good for you as well. I can now enjoy spinach/broccoli/Chinese veggies with a few spritz of this sucker for that Chinese cuisine taste. Get some NOW. It will change the way you eat.

As I was stating in the last post, I have a couple of people who have taken interest into our services (Sam & I), which I am super excited about. Yes it is challenging. Yes it takes a lot of work to customize eating plans/making workout plans and everything in between, but in the end...it is so worth it. Even if they had a couple of sessions or did the nutritional plan and eventually quit, I would know that they took away some very important information along with them. That little piece of information really does go a very long way. I know somewhere that I made a difference in their life one squat or one spoonful at a time.

Picking Up The Pace

Looks like things are finally buzzing and forreal this time. I have a couple of potential clients for personal training and I'm super excited about it. I have two this week already and hopefully more to come. I just love love LOVE it!!!

The one 'serious' girl I am training at the moment is well on her way to success. She has already adapted to her meal plan and is hitting the gym as much as she can...even at-home workouts as well. I adore her. I see her tomorrow for her 3rd session. Little does she know we are going to pick up the pace a tad bit. SUPRISE.

The other girl I am seeing for the first time on Wednesday is not new to the gym but is wanting to get back in shape and some days just does not have the time due to certain circumstances. With that in mind, I have made an arrangement with a friend who lives in this amazing condo...for her to train at the apartment gym they have there. I am so thankful as the gym has pretty much everything I need, which is dumbbells & a treadmill. Woot woot!

I am getting a little tired & bored of my workouts. You know what that means...yep its about that time to change it up again. Now all I have to do is decide which exercises I want to incorporate. I want to change it up a bit, make it challenging and interesting...at least for the next couple of weeks. Tomorrow is leg day. I may just finish off with the exercises I already have set in my plan and then change it from there. I thoroughly enjoy making my own workout plans. It's enjoyable.

With being on a fat burner, one thing that definitely picks up in pace is my heart. I feel it going a million miles an hour sometimes and I'm not even doing anything crazy. I know its a little weird but I kinda enjoy the rush. Although, I always have to make sure I check my heart rate. I don't want to die yet...hehe.

Tomorrow is our last dodgeball game before the playoffs begin. We definitely need to BRING IT. Why you ask? Because we are playing against the number one team. I believe they are called "Dirty Free For Alls". Well Dirty Free For Alls...we "The IncrediBalls" have WAAAAY better shirts than you. So there. :D

Wish us luck.

Eat, Train, Grow

So tomorrow marks another great day when a friend decides to take that huge leap and does something about their physical and mental well-being. I absolutely love this part about training people. It drives me. I love helping people achieve their goals because not so long ago I was in the exact same position.

I am making her a nutritional plan as well as a workout plan. Already have the workout plan done but I still need some work on the nutritional side of things. Hopefully I can get that up and running by Thursday (which is when I want her to start her journey to success). This is the first time someone has ever taken this stuff seriously. I have had others drop after a week or so, which doesn't make me the happiest camper, but I just have to live with the fact that they are mentally/physically prepared to succeed. There is no doubt....anyone can succeed. It's all a mental game. Your body doesn't give up...it's the mind that does.

Deadline is the middle of next year, so I am quite positive you will be hearing more of her in my many blogs to come.

...Until next time...

Blast Through It Baby

So usually when the weather is nice out I wear my gym attire (aerobic shorts & tank) to the YMCA. One beautiful day I was walking to the gym and these two young men coming towards me yelled out something. I wasn't sure at the time what they were saying but as they neared I heard one of them clearly say "nice ass". I pretended not to hear them but they just yelled it out louder and louder as they passed me. Although quite rude, I was oddly flattered. Crazy youngsters.

Sam & I dropped by Meyer's to pay the fellas a visit like we normally do and they had just got a new pre-workout called Razor8 Blast Powder by AllMax Nutrition. Sam, being a self-proclaimed guinea pig, decided to test it out. To my surprise, he even said I could try it out. Only 1/2 a scoop since by looking at the nutritional information this stuff was quite strong. Sam said he felt his eyes bulge about a minute later. I didn't feel anything at first but as I got into my workout it really kicked in. I did an extra set (making it 4) for each exercise. I finished off my leg/glute weight training with a bit of cardio and this time it was spectacular. I did my interval training for much longer (25 minutes) with the running interval for 2 minutes and walking for 1 minute. After my cardio was done, I wanted to do MORE. But I wanted to be smart about it so I skipped directly to the stretching part. Now let's review:

Taste: 8
Focus/Concentration: 10
Price: 7

I have to say this pre-workout is right up there with Purus Labs Muscle Marinade. On a taste level, this is quite tasty as compared to other pre-workouts. My concentration & intensity was unmoving, which I loved. The one downfall I have is the anxious feeling. I was feeling a little uneasy & jittery WAY after my workout. But overall, this one has got to be one of the strongest pre-workouts I have ever tried. Not for the weak at heart that's for sure. So if you want a really strong pre-workout when you really just don't have it in you, this baby will do it for you and then some.

X Marks The Spot

Today marks the first day of the 6-month long healthy eating challenge (of course minus the bi-monthly or monthly carbload) for the Novice Competition this coming March (if I feel as though I am ready). I call it a challenge because it's going to be challenging staying away from bad food. Why is it that bad food tastes so darn good? Oh what a world!!! With this monumental day comes the beginning of another body composition makeover, alongside a new cycle of my fat burner for a week.

I am quite delighted & satisfied with all the progress I've made within the last year but there is still much to do to get my body prepared. Here is a picture of the Top 3 Bikini Winners from this year's MABBA Novice Competition. OMG do I have my work cut out for myself. Here are some of the things I need to work on in the coming months.

  • Get Balanced
  • - There are some muscles larger than others. I need to even this out
  • Core Needs More
  • - I'm halfway there. It is just the bottom half of my abs that is stubborn. Go away fat.
  • Lower Back Pain
  • - I have a nice upper back but its the lower half that is behind. More homework for me.
  • Get Toned, Tanned, Fit & Ready
  • - Overall, I need to be more toned. My muscles need to come out more. You all know what that means. More cardio for a lower body fat percentage.

I do believe I have what it takes to place in the top 5. To even be in the top 3 would just be amazing. If I did, I'd happily tell people "I am a body builder", which I believe you can only say after you have been in a competition. One can dream and hopefully make it a reality. My goal. X marks the spot.

Recently, I have been introduced to this disgustingly great show on the Travel Channel called "Man vs Food" by my friend Ian (thanks bud). Here is a little snippet of what the show is about.
"...Adam is on a journey to explore the biggest and best eats our nation has to offer, including some of the craziest eating challenges around." This guy is my hero. I was watching this one episode of his journey to Las Vegas. Now I adore breakfast. Breakfast has got to be one of my favourite meals. And I love Eggs Benedict. Take my two loves and increase the size exponentially...well now...I'd just be in food heaven. It looks just insane and sounds equally insane. It consists of sage fried chicken with spinach, hardwood smoked bacon, market tomato, griddled mozzarella, smothered in chipotle cream and topped with scrambled eggs. All Benedicts are served on a fresh split biscuit with griddled mashed potatoes. The bacon even has flare, as it is placed crisscrossed on the Eggs Benedict biscuit. I wonder how many calories are in this thing. My guess...2-3 days worth for a normal person's diet. Eek.

Which leads me to my next point. What is normal now? The Americas are #1 when it comes to obesity. Yet as years go by, restaurants and large corporations are making their products bigger and bigger (Super Size Me). What kind of example are we setting out for the generations to come? We certainly are on the right path to minimize that dreadful statistic with healthier options available but "they" aren't helping with this saddening epidemic. Sam pointed out something that really stuck with me. He had said something like "...what I don't get is all these American TV shows. If a large percentage of them fall into the obese category, then why are all the characters skinny people." They aren't the "norm". Tell us the truth TV moguls and show us who WE really are.

So today, I was at a restaurant with Sam for lunch and I think (but I'm not 100 percent sure) my ex was there. It is so weird as today's date marked 6 months of being together on last year's calendar, which we had celebrated in an amazing fashion. Haven't seen the guy in almost a year. Of all days huh? Oh big man, how you work in mysterious ways.

Whatever the case my be...Life goes on &mine is amazing :D

    Food Festivities...And They're Off....!!!!

So I know some of you out there are nonbelievers when it comes to myself behaving badly aka eating poorly. Well feast your eyes on this my friends...the next couple of images from the past week will astounded and amaze you for days ("Kim, I can't believe you ate that."). Just keep in mind while looking at these images, these all did not happen in the same day lol. Don't judge me...haha. While I am NOW "paying" for my food options...not so much in monetary terms but by the scale & inches, please do not attempt this at home kids. With any kind of experiment, one must not do alone. Cue my food partner SAM. He also went along for the food-ride of a lifetime with me. It is much more fun when you got someone else gaining pounds right alongside you. With that being said....and they're off...

  • McDonald's Fast Food Restaurant for their loaded sandwich consisting of bacon, egg & cheese served on a small pancake injected with maple flavoring, embossed with the McDonald's logo smiling down upon you. They like to call this creation the "McGriddle". I have to say all these years I've been missing out. Sure, it sounds frickin' disgusting on paper but my mouth & tongue say "delicious". The image below is me analyzing the sugary & fattening concoction. I also had one of my fav menu items, which is the crispy & crunchy hash brown. Greasy...just the way I like it!!!

  • C Cups Bakery was the time killer in between McDonald's & The Royal Fork Buffet before they opened at 11 am. I wanted to check C Cups for many months now; eying it every time I passed by on Regent. I just wanted to see how they made their red velvet cupcakes compared to other shops in Winnipeg. The shop was quaint with pink everywhere(my fav colour). I know I'm such a girly girl. They had about 10 or so cupcakes for customers to choose from and a small selection of cookies. They even had a couple of tables for customers to sit & enjoy their baked goodies. But alas, the icing for the red velvet cupcake I had was way too cream cheesy and overabundant for my liking but overall still good. I give you guys a silver medal :D

  • Royal Fork Buffet is one place I haven't been to in ages. It has probably been a good 5 years since I've stepped foot in there. Sam & I went pretty much when they first opened their doors for the day and there was a line up....yes...a line up. So weird. I knew people lined up for movies on opening night but not for a buffet in Winnipeg. Too funny. The majority of the people who were in line were gray at the hair or with big families. No people our age. Too bad I couldn't pull off the +55 look. I could of got a stamp for a free buffet. Next time I guess. Fun Fact: Did you know you can make our own waffles at The Royal Fork? Love It! So, the image below tells the "partial" story of what happened at the restaurant. I say partial because as you can tell from the last image, I missed a whole bunch of food pics but that was only because I was busy...busy eating. Sorry.

  • Lilac Bakery has been on my hit list of places to go for a long while. Good thing I didn't have to wait very long to go. Once you step into the front doors, you immediately get that "aww" feeling. It's so cute, clean and warming. By far the best bakery I've been to in all of Winnipeg. The reason is this: good quality desserts, not overly sweet, good selection & range, decent pricing and dagnabbit it just tastes so darn good. We had quite a pickle trying to select only two of the many delectable desserts available. We ended up selecting the "Millionaire Shortbread" & "Pumpkin Praline". Now let me give you a description of each: Millionaire Shortbread - Rich squares of shortbread topped with creamy caramel and finished with a layer of milk chocolate. Pumpkin Praline - A Lilac Bakery signature. Spicy pumpkin custard layered over a crunchy oatmeal bottom. Topped with candied pecans. Can somebody say DELICIOUS??? Wow! Both were just absolutely amazing. I highly recommend this bakery to anyone. You have to HAVE TO go...like NOW!

  • The Spotted Cow is such a cute little ice cream shop on Main Street close to the Winnipeg border. It is a "no-fuss" ice cream parlour. Nothing too fancy like those other big chains, which is quite nice sometimes. I love how their walls are filled with funny cartoon caricatures of celebrities and their what-would-be "cow names" (Eddy MOOphy). But really simplicity is key. And by this time, that was exactly what Sam & I were looking for. Mind you, we did have a buy one get one coupon, which definitely aids in our selection of places to go for a little treat. But why not right? We ended up getting a vanilla ice cream sandwich (one of my absolute favourite treats) and a strawberry sundae. I am sure by now you have a sense that both of us have a mild...err...actually a BIG sweet tooth...or teeth. Just can't get enough of it baby. It was plain ol' yummy.

  • Rasoi The Kitchen was our fixin' for a late night snack. What I was really looking forward to was a samosa and butter chicken *drool. I was so hungry when we walked in and placed our order. We waited for a good 20 minutes, which was fine with me as once again I had a buy one get one coupon. Oh how I adore coupons. We sat down and finally tried the goods only to be quite disappointed. The butter chicken was not too pleasant. I definitely had better in the past. The chicken was not moist even with it being soaked in the curry and was somewhat tough. The nann bread was out of this world. I say that only because I have never in my life seen naan bread made this way. Just look at the image. You tell me...haha. It was okay though. Just different. One highlight was the samosas. They were not a disappointment. THANK GOD. I scarfed it down like no tomorrow.

  • Hot n Ready Pizza was a pit stop for a little tune up/fuel up because #1 - we were hungry and #2 - we did not want to wait in the long line up forming outside of the Olive Garden. So with my trusty Show & Save book, what did I find but a buy one get one for pizza. Sweet deals! Now the image you see below isn't four pieces of pizza but two. The portion sizes at Pizza Pizza are just ridonkulous. I couldn't believe my eyes. They also have these great seasoning powders at their concession. I tried the herb and garlic one. Yum! Although the pizza was just so-so, it was a steal of a deal I must say.

  • Back to Olive Garden we go. After countless hours later (okay I may be exaggerating a little bit just because we drove all across the city to find a place to eat on a Sunday night - which poses to be quite a challenge late in the evening and it doesn't help if you are picky *ahem Sam), we finally found ourselves at the REGENT Olive Garden. No line up out the doors at this location. Thanks big man. Olive Garden has a limited time special of All You Can Eat Pasta for just $9.99. No wonder why the Polo Park location was busy. All you cheap people like us want in on the deal. Guess the folks in the Regent area don't give a hoot. More for me then (*sticks tongue out). With the deal, you also get soup or salad and their amazing never-ending bread sticks. I love their bread. I probably ate a handful. I swear. So the image below is the soup we both ordered. I had the gnocchi cream soup, while Sam, being non-adventurous got the Minestrone. We kept on getting more bread and salad. Keep it coming Mr.Waiterman. When it came to the main event of the all you can eat pasta, I had the Mushroom Cream Sauce with Penne Noodles the first time around. The second time, I had something plain and simple: Spaghetti with meat sauce. I had to tap out at round two. My tummy couldn't take it anymore and I also wanted to make sure I saved room for...you guessed it...DESSERT! Again, there are no pictures of the pasta because I was too busy eating. Fun Fact: Olive Garden has one way mirrors. They are watching you. Bogga Booga.

  • Marble Slab for the win. While finishing up our carbilicious dinner at Oliver Garden, the time read 9:52 pm. OMFG, Marble Slab closes in 8 minutes. We rushed out of the restaurant and sped our way to the newest location of the franchise. The time in the car read 9:58 pm. We quickly made our way into the shop. Good thing there was a couple in front of us or else they would've closed the doors on ours for sure. I'm quite certain the counter attendant did no like our presence, but whatever we were paying customers...paying CHEAP customers (Yes I had in my possession yet another buy one get one coupon lol). Since I already knew what I wanted (the best flavour EVER, Birthday Cake with a mix-in of cookie dough), I put my order in first. Melt in your mouth goodness. I was in heaven. Sam took a little while to decide but made a great clutch decision in the end of Strawberry Cheesecake. It was fresh & quite nice. After we left the shop, we finished off our cones in the parking lot in the car with me happily stating to him "WE MADE IT. WE MADE IT." - (Kevin Rudolf). A high five shortly came after..haha. Left is Sam's Strawberry Cheesecake and right is my Birthday Cake with Cookie Dough. Look at the huge glob of cookie dough. Drool. Success all around. Woot woot!!!

  • Donuts & Cookies & Sugar Oh My. Sam was craving something sweet and little to munch. And since I had a coupon for Robins Donuts for buy 3 donuts get 3 free, we decided to take them up on that offer :D I don't even remember which ones we got. I'm thinking probably a couple of crullers, a maple dip, an apple fritter, sour cream and honey dip. Yah those are probably the 6 we got. Sam lives & breaths for donuts when he gets the odd chance to have them. I on the other hand had an itching for Subway cookies. Unfortunately folks, I did not have a coupon. I really didn't care at this point. I just heart white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. We gobbled some of our treats in the car even before we got back. Eating while cruising is just one of my favourite past-times. Too bad we ended up not finishing our treats. We were just stuffed beyond belief. We gave the remains to Sam's buddy instead. But nonetheless, it was Deliciso!!!

  • Bake me a Caramel Crepe as fast as you can. The Forks is probably the best place for a wide range food choices to cater your every need. Whether it be sweet, salty or savory. They got it all. So that is where we decided to chill out for breakfast for what looked like would be a beautiful Saturday morning. Danny's All-Day Breakfast seemed quite busy. So we decided to go to their neighbour at Caramel Crepes. This was the very first time eating there for both Sam & I. I picked the Popeye Crepe (mozza cheese, strips of roast beef, spinach and bacon bits) , while Sam selected the Caramel Crepe (apple, almonds and caramel). Both were just delightful. I really enjoyed the Caramel crepe for it's amazing combination. The almonds made it quite special. The popeye was quite nice with its roast beef and wow bacon bits. I forgot what simulated bacon tasted like. I would of preferred the real thing but it did the job. What you didn't see was shortly after I took this picture, Sam came back with 3 deep fried apple and 5 pizza perogies. Pizza perogy you ask? Well think about it this way...this small treat was kinda of like a miniature pizza pop. Yummm....pizza pops (Homer Simpson voice). Love Pizza Pops and I just loved these babies!

  • Fergie's Fish & Chips was featured in an article in Ciao! Magazine, which is a magazine mainly dedicated to local food and restaurants. When I saw the words "deep fried chocolate bar", my eyes immediately lit up. This is something I've always wanted to try. I've seen shows on the Food Network with this fatty concoction but I so wanted to try it for myself at least once in my life. Today was the day to test out the waters at Fergie's Fish n Chips (of all places...weird huh?). The guy took about 3 minutes or so to prepare our deep fried goodness. Sam picked it up when it was finished. We sat down with our plastic forks at hand. I had the first bite. It was like a harmony in my mouth. Both sweet from the chocolate and salty with the batter they used to coat the bar. Imagine this...warm milk chocolate all melted in your mouth with the crispy somewhat salty ting of batter. All I can say is WOW and "I need something to drink." What you didn't see after was a picture of our refreshing juice mixes from The Smoothie Bar at the Forks. I once again had a buy one get one coupon (yes I totally got my money's worth from buying the Show & Save. I am proud..haha). We both went with the Apple, Orange Carrot, Ginger fruit. You can taste all flavours. None of the flavours overpower one another. You can taste each one individually, which is quite nice. *Gulp aaah! So Refreshing.

  • Lilac Bakery...again. The first time I went to Lilac Bakery, I just couldn't get enough of it. For that reason, we just had to go back for a second time. This time around we tried 4 different menu items: Butter Tart, Mini Red Velvet Cupcake, Hello Dolly (Graham wafer crumbs, coconut, chocolate chips, walnuts and condensed milk), & Pineapple Coconut Square (sweet pineapple, coconut custard on a vanilla base). My god Lilac Bakery did it again. They just blow every other bakery out of the water. My absolute fav treat is butter tarts. This one was like no other. I took my first bite thinking it was the same as store brought ones. A couple of seconds later, the tart started oozing out a caramel-looking sticky filling. The red velvet cupcake was way better than the one from C Cups. The cream cheese icing was just right. It almost tasted like a cream cheese ice cream. It was so smooth and not overly sweet. Just amazing! The other two slices we saved for later in the afternoon. The Pineapple Coconut square reminded me of filipino fruit salad, which I thoroughly enjoyed because I always get second, third..maybe even fourth helpings of it sometimes whenever we have a family gathering. The Hello Dolly was a nice chocolately, crispy treat. Everything was in balance. I swear, I will try everything on their menu before the year is up. You guys have got yourselves a long term customer..

  • Dingo's Wild & Crazy Dogs on Corydon was the next stop (and hopefully last) on our list. It used to be the old Sugar Mountain location. Every single time I would pass by it would always be closed. This time it was mid-day so they HAD to be open. We were definitely in luck today. It wasn't too busy. I never knew there were so many things you could potentially do with a hot dog. Wasabi on a hot dog? How weird is that? Although it intrigued me, I chose the safe route and went with "The Godfather" (Pizza sauce, pepperoni, tomatoes, green peppers, grated mozzarella cheese. Sam opted for something a little different which was "The Baba" (Potato & Cheddar perogies, bacon, fried onions, sour cream). Sam loves his poutines, so he also ordered the smothered fries. A whole lot of food..ya I know. While we were waiting for our 'dogs, I couldn't help but notice the wall full of different sodas. They claim to have about 300 different soda pops from around the world and it shows. Since we wanted something cold, our selection was narrowed down to a few. The picture depicts the one I selected. It was called Bug Barf aka Kiwi Pineapple. The bottle says "It's sodasgusting." How clever with the play on words :D
We got the fries first. Look at the image and tell me...doesn't that look just disgusting....disgustingly good that is...haha. It definitely deserves to be titled "smothered". During our feast, the waitress brought over my "Godfather". When I saw this thing all I could think was "how the heck am I going to fit this in my mouth?" I swear to you the hot dog was almost as long as my forearm and the girth was the size of my fist. I strategically decided to go with the head tilt with biting on one side and then the other. It was a fresh tasting hot dog. I was quite different than the regular ones I'm used to. But when I took hold of "The Baba"...wow this hot dog was just insane. I heart perogies and onions as a dish at itself but seriously on a hot dog? Genius people...Genius! I will definitely be coming back in the sometime near future.

  • So now that you have read my what seemed to be never-ending tales from the non-dieters crypt keeper, please do not attempt this. This is most definitely not the example I want to set out for you guys who do read my blog but more of a "you live & you learn" thing. Now looking back on the food I had ate, I definitely could not do this on a regular basis. I miss the simplicity of my bland chicken breast, those yellow tins of tuna and unsalted broccoli. No more days of yore, especially since the competition is in just 6 months from now. I gotta get myself prepared. This experiment was more so a treat for myself if anything for all the hard work and strict dieting I have been doing for the past year. If you wanna play it smart, only treat yourself once a week. Now time to close that chapter...or...maybe I'll keep a bookmark in there...you know..just in case ;)

    Mind Your Business

So I was listening to my jams getting into the groove of my weight training program at the YMCA when I was so rudely interrupted by a middle-aged man, who seemed to me was a social butterfly and a little on the heavier side. He was trying to tell/show me how to do a bicep curl...ME! You gotta be kidding me. I am a trainer for Pete's sake. To be brutally honest, I am more fit than most guys at the gym...eek. I know how to do them properly. I think he was "trying" to help or flirt when REALLY he was breaking down my concentration and focus. I am all about focus in my workouts. I am in the zone. The ONLY person I concentrate on is...well...ME!. That just drives me nuts. Leave me alone...gaaah.

So the Zellers on Henderson is closing for business. Sad I know but with that comes discounts galore. I got a cute school girl long sleeved sweater for 5 bucks. I also got...drum roll please...MC Hammer pants lol. They are so comfy. It is not even funny how much I just adore wearing these pants. ONLY $4. I know! Crazy. I got a wicked deal on vitamins (50% off at all Zellers). I stocked up on B100 Complex (all the b vitamins), CoQ10, and Niacine. If you guys don't know what those are just look it up. All are great for the mind, body and soul....BUT the following day.....

....one of the vitamins gave me an allergic reaction!!!!

So I take my stack at the same time each day, which is when I wake up in the morning. With my regular stack, I included the 3 new vitamins. About 30 minutes later, I found my skin to be really irritated and my whole body felt warm. I looked down at my skin and what did I see but goosebumps. I wasn't even cold. I looked in the mirror to find a cherry red face. Now silly kimmy, she doesn't even know which of the vitamins gave her that reaction and is too nervous to try it out again anytime soon. So for now, the bottles are gonna collect dust until I am off my fat burner, which is what I think is the problem. Oh how sad as I was so excited about these babies. I will attempt sometime soon and let you in on my condition. I just hope I don't end up looking like another itchy, red monster.

    Let It Marinade!!!

So the other day, I was "allowed" (if you read earlier, you know what I mean LOL) to try Purus Labs Muscle Marinade in Purus Punch sold exclusively at Muscle's By Meyers located on William Avenue Boy, let me tell you....the best pre-workout I've ever had.

    Taste: 10
    Focus/Concentration: 10
    Price: 7

Have you ever tried Tang before as a kid? Well in my opinion that's pretty much what Purus Punch tastes like. No more chugging down intolerable tasting pre-workout formulas. This is definitely a keeper in my eyes. Just plain ol' delicious. Took this baby and immediately headed to the gym. This pre-workout is the KING of all kings. I felt even more focused than when I had taken the 1MR (earlier post of the review). Don't get me wrong, I still adore both pre-workouts. But with this, I just wanted to do more and more...and yes...more. Now if you aren't stingy with your dollars, then this is definitely one container to pick up and try.

.....and all the gym rats lived happily ever after. The End.

    Lather, Rinse & Repeat

Woke up and immediately drove myself to the YMCA Downtown. It was leg today (love it!) and I was super pumped. Did 4 exercises (lunges, squats, leg extension and flutterkicks on the ball). After I finished, I decided to do some core work as well. So I did another 4 exercises (pulsating leg raises, jack knives, crunch on cross-over, and ball pull-ins). On top of all that, I did interval training on the treadmill for 16 minutes. Did what I normally do after my workout, which is shower. I hate when the showers are busy. I was lathering myself up knowing full on that there were a couple of people staring. There is never a time when this doesn't happen. Just ask Sam...haha. He's got a great story. But it never fails. Err mind your own business. That all happened at 9 am in the morning.

Decided to head back to the gym in the evening around 7 pm. With that, I had to "clean" my clothes aka using my trusty friend in a bottle..."Febreeze" lol. A little spritz here and little spritz there. Done! I know I'm sick. I don't care what you think lol. I was thinking I'd go back just for some light cardio...or so I thought. This is what happens in Kimmy's brain: I get to the gym thinking "yes, I am here to ONLY do cardio...that's it" but what ends up happening is this "...but I'm itching to pick up some weights like everyone else. What to do? What to do?" . I did do cardio around the track at first. But what DID I do? I'm sure you guessed it already. Yep...I picked up some iron. I couldn't help it. Sorry body. Waited around for a friend, who was supposed to show up for a practice but I left the weight area. He was taking too darn long. You know who you are. Sorry buddy. Again, I showered. And again, the starers were there. Ahh leave me alone lol.

After all that, I got to use my culinary skills in the kitchen and made Vegetable Curry with Squash with Sam. I haven't done this in such a long time. The whole process of making something from scratch: washing and cutting each veggie...again and again and again. I miss this. Mind you, we went a little overboard on the veggies but that's okay. Veggies are good for you anyways. Click the link for the recipe. Vegetable Curry with Squash Yum!!! It was super tasty and spicy. I heart ALL curry dishes as a matter of fact.

I also did a homemade salad dressing for the salad. It was in a 2007 issue of "Prevention Magazine" but I had made a dressing from scratch years ago that was somewhat similar to this.

Here it is with my little additions:

2 tbsp EVOO (extra virgin olive oil)
    2 tbsp lemon juice
    2 tbsp white vinegar
    1 tbsp green onions
1 tsp sugar (I used Stevia of course)
    1 tsp of minced garlic
1/2 tsp salt (I used No Salt Salt Substitute)
    1/2 tsp black pepper

Pull all those ingredients in a small leak-proof container and shake-shake-shake-shake it baby.
Pour over your salad and PRESTO, you've got yourself an amazing dressing.

It's so nice and so very healthy...the way it should always be!!!

    One More Rep

Today's work out was just INSANE. I got a sample of a pre-workout called 1MR in Orange by BPI Sports from Muscles by Meyers on 483 William Avenue & Isabel. Side note: Go visit those guys. They are the best at what they do. *muah

Here is the description from BPI Sports:
1MR™ - “One More Rep” - A Heavily Concentrated Mind Blowing Dose of Energy, Vascularity, and Strength. An unrelenting rush of synergistic ingredients powered to make every workout your best, every workout your strongest, every workout your show and tell. Go ahead make everyone stare. 1MR™ is what separates you from everyone else. It’s what makes every muscle stronger, every vein wider, and every rep shorter. Pack on 100 miles per hour of energy and maybe, just maybe you have what it takes. This is a non-stop energy driven formula. It will get you to the gym faster, make your workouts shorter, and ultimately make you the architect of your own reflection.

I've only had beta alanine, which for me, just induced the "creepy-crawler-under-your-skin" feeling. If you do not know what a pre-workout is here is the jist. It is a supplement (in either pill or powdered form) taken prior to working out to give you a little boost to go the extra mile when your energy levels are low. This will most definitely aid in that.

I was definitely pushing it to the limits today. I found I was really focused to the point where I may have over-trained by doing 2 more exercises than my workout plan stated for my tricep/back day. Over-training=bad. Yes I know. Still, I highly recommend it to anyone who works out. This stuff is amazing. I just couldn't help it if I did over-train. Sorry muscles. I'll be nicer tomorrow. I swear.

Muscle Marinade by Purus Labs is another amazing pre-workout in which I've heard great things by users. Some say the best pre-workout on the market. But "someone" won't let me try it...*ahem Sam....What a bugger! I'll get my own sample then :p

I did the maximum amount of reps (12) for all my exercises (6) with 4 sets each. I know it sounds quite intense, but if only you knew how I felt...then you would understand fully. I could of swore I listened to "Crazy In Love" by Beyonce 6 times in a row while weight training. It really got me going. Yes I do know it isn't really a workout song but it just makes me want to dance. Me and her are like "this" (fingers crossed).

I also did HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) on the treadmill today with a 2 minute jog-2 minute sprint. Still feeling the pre-workout in my system, I finished off my 16 minute HIIT with a 2 minute jog-4 minute sprint instead. I kept on reminding myself of things while training like: "You can do this. Keep moving." Weird right? But it really did get me motivated to give that same intensity throughout the entire workout. Afterward, I was perspiring so much, beads of sweat were falling down onto the treads. Kinda gross...I know. Really, I was just trying to oil the machine :D

So to sum it up, BUY UP THIS STUFF at Meyers. You won't regret it. And if you don't like it, give it to me. I'll take it off your hands. MINE.

    "Can You Break My Change?"

I am a huge believer in change. After all, change is good. If we do not change, then we do not evolve as a human-beings. Whether it be a good change or a bad one, "change is inevitable."

Many things in my life are different as of last year, which I will not list off because I would most definitely take up much more internet space then necessary. There were many....and I repeat MANY ups & downs along the way but in my journey I've met some great and inspiring people; people who also inspire myself to achieve the best form of ME, not only in the physical but in every aspect of life. I found even one little tidbit of advice from someone can easily transform you...making you see things in a different light. But with that being said, with everything comes a price. Not everyone is going to like change....either learn to adopt or get the fudge out of here. The people who you want surrounding you are the ones who can support and at least try to understand what you are trying to accomplish; not judge, ridicule or criticize your crazy notions. To be optimally successful, a good support base is key.

The one thing I will mention about my personal changes and one that is the most obvious is my physique. Being about 40 pounds lighter, there are the obvious changes in body composition. Once you start shedding pounds, along comes an increase in self-confidence. They go hand-in-hand. Mind you, I have a bit of a self-confidence complex which comes and goes but who doesn't after being overweight for such a long period of my life. It's only natural to feel like "that big girl" every once in awhile.

    _________________________________________

Not too sure if I had mentioned in a previous post, but come October is when my off season is going to start aka I GET TO EAT "NORMALLY" AGAIN. Whoop-De-Doo!!! Normal for me is getting to add more carbs therefore gaining back weight. Ya, that part...not so thrilling. So I really get 2 months to "get fat" before I start transforming my body in tip top shape for the Novice competition come March. Eek!!!
    _________________________________________

So my mom, being very generous, empties her coin purse in front of me and says "take what you want." All I see are twoonies, loonies and quarters. So I go ahead and take a good handful. When I finally manage the time to count it, the sum of the change comes out to $70 plus dollars. Isn't that just ridonkulous? I ended up using it at Sports Chek swearing to the cashier I didn't break my piggy bank for the new gym bag, which I absolutely adore. It is the most beautiful thing I've ever laid my eyes on in a long time. Yes I know it's so silly to be THIS excited about a gym bag. Just let me be...hehe. I heart you New Nike bag. *Muah

I have a couple of new developments coming about. One of which has to do with my logo designing (new client). Woot! But the other stuff...at this time my loyal fans, I cannot disclose. All I can say is it'll be a VERY good change for me and my future.

Stay Tuned. Same Bat time. Same Bat channel :D

    zZzZzZ.....

Wake up in the morning feeling not like P.Diddy....

I was so frickin' exhausted when I woke. This is what I get for late nights (4 am-ers) at the club with my buddies. Woke up around 12:00 pm...yep already the afternoon. My whole morning is Gone, Gone, Gone. I hate when that happens because what ends up happening is I become ULTRA LAZY GIRL. Ultra Lazy Girl to the rescue or not ;D

Now we all know sleep is important but do you really know HOW important it is? I admit, I do have to 'practice what I preach' with my crazy weekends of party-party but as I said these things take time and will need to change once I start my hardcore season come January.

For one thing, it is important for your health and well-being. Secondly, it is HUGELY important when you are working out. Why you ask? Well let me tell you. Some people have the mentality of when you workout is when you build. When in fact, the time you actually let you body to rest is when it develops and grows. When you workout, you are basically "ripping" your muscle tissue. There are obviously foods and protein to help rebuild but if you are not getting enough sleep your body cannot repair it and recover for your next workout. With that being said, it is preferable to get approximately 8 hours of sleep, 6 at the least, which I did get last night but WOW my internal clock and sleeping pattern is gonna be messed up for tomorrow. Boourns.
    ______________________________________________________

So lately, I have been having these hardcore power naps. What feels like an hour or so, turns out to only be 20-30 minutes. It's crazy. Insert "Inception" reference here ---> Maybe I am in a dream, within a dream, within a dream. I'm not too sure what I am doing differently. Never in my life have I had a power nap. It is just something so new to me. I happen to think that it's kinda cool and hope it continues. I like knowing I haven't wasted a whole evening. Ya know?

It is 4:30 pm (taking me forever to finish this post because I'm doing a lot of things ATM) and it just looks absolutely dreadful outside right now. It makes me feel kinda sad, sleepy and lazy. I don't like it one bit..no sir. And for some weird reason, the weather is making me drum up old feelings of the past. Do not even get me started. The end.

The temperature in the city is slowly dropping. And you all know what that means right ?
FALL IS COMING. MOMMA NO!!! Get out your sweaters, leggings and boots ladies & gentleman. Okay, maybe not leggings for the guys. That would just weird...haha. And to think, just last week I was dying of the extreme heat with our +35 temperatures: Longing for a store to pop into with air conditioning. All I want is for it to come back, is that too much to ask?

Now to find my favourite sweater dress and fuzzy slippers. Maybe I'll take a nap. Ssshhhh now. I'm trying to sleep. ZzZzZzZzzzzz....

    1, 2, 3 Cheese

So it turns out my buddy Mirah is able to do a photo session with me this coming Thursday, August 19th, which is exactly a week from today. Eek. How do you even prepare for one? I really do not know. Now to spend a ridiculous amount of time in front of the mirror practicing my Blue Steel (Zoolander). She suggested we do a shoot outside of the city. I got no clue where to go though. Maybe Bird's Hill Park or Lockport. I'm just hoping it doesn't rain. Mother Nature, please be nice. We don't want a wet t-shirt contest or anything...hehe. I'm not quite ready for my close-up Ms.Camerawoman, but by next week I sure hope so. Say Cheese.

So I went to Vita Health and to my surprise...the most amazing thing ever did I see: Imitation Cream Cheese. I heart cream cheese. So good with everything. Next step, trying to incorporate it into my diet, which will be soon as I need more carbs in my diet with the dodgeball season coming up. Yum bagels with cream cheese. I cannot wait!!! There are just so many healthier options these days but not a lot of people know of them. It's like a constant search. It's fun for me and for you, my readers. Stay tuned for more "Options". Hmm ya okay I've just now decided to make a weekly blurb about that or whenever I get a chance. Done & done.

I just want to make a little shout out to all my friends and family who have supported me and still continue to support me through my journey. You guys are so great. You are the reason as to why I started up this publicly viewable blog. You say, I do. You are there for me when I stumble. Never judge me or my crazy diet and gym routine. But really...thank you also for the great compliments and feedback. I get so super cheesed whenever I read them. This is me -----> :D

AND FOR ALL YOU HATERS OUT THERE (oh you know who you are), bugger off and go find someone else to judge and criticize. I'm Happy. Let me be. I'm gonna do ME.

'Til next time, keep fat and have fun (says Kevin Duong)...oops I mean keep fit. hehe

    "I'm Focused Man" - Jay-Z

So the main reason people go to the gym is to work out. That should be the only reason right? Well apparently not for everyone. In my opinion, from what I can see, the gym is sometimes a cesspool of individuals (mostly guys) who want to scoop out the opposite sex and socialize, therefore taking gym time away from others and yourself. It's so ridiculous. Do not get me wrong, there are plenty of hardcores but you can always spot the troublemakers a mile away. You can almost sniff 'em out. Reality check: Trying to look cool at the gym in fact makes you look stupid. Just sayin'

So here are some things you should think about:
Do not wear shades. It isn't sunny INSIDE.
    Don't bring your tv-boombox. It's not a party.
Leave the gangsta big ass chains at home. We ain't in the Bronx.
Ladies, put your makeup on AFTER your workout, not before.
Please save kissing and hugging for the bedroom. No one wants to see that stuff. No one!!!

Do not give those particular people the attention they are longing for. This comment is for you..."person-at-the-gym-who-lifts-his-shirt-up-in-front-of-mirror-to-look-at-yourself" guy. You look like a 'tard. Stop worrying about what others think and focus on your own self for self-improvement. Try your hardest to concentrate 100% on the task at hand. I find what helps for me is to occasionally close my eyes to refocus....so nothing distracts me.

Another great tip to remember is by focusing (squeezing) on the actual muscle you're targeting, you will most definitely get more out of it and in-turn make the muscles work at their fullest potential, opposed to just doing the motion of the exercise (up-down or side-to-side).

So to finish off my rant, please people just focus on yourself and not others. It makes for a happier environment "for you and for me and the entire human race" (Michael Jackson).

    Straighten Out...Geez

Today was leg day. It has absolutely got to be one of my favourite days because I gotta say I'm becoming a fan of my own legs...haha. The definition is finally coming in. I can vaguely see the separation of the Quads, as well as lines I've never seen before in my life. It's such a neat thing...to see yourself in the mirror and say "Hey You. That looks new." Guaranteed to put a smile on anyone's face. That sense of accomplishment is definitely there.

But with that being said, I made a tiny mistake during my wide stance dumbbell squats. I was locking my knees occasionally when I came up to straighten my legs from the squat. Big no-no Kimbo! You never really want to lock any of your joints when doing exercise. You could injury yourself. Luckily, as of now, I'm not feeling any pain. Stay tuned though. That soon may change.

One of the things I have been working on for the last 3 months is keeping my posture straight. It is something that everyone should encompass. You can also do exercises that focus on the upper back and shoulders to build & strengthen muscles. It definitely makes a huge difference compared to a person with bad posture. Someone who actually is 140lbs could easily be mistaken for 150lbs...just by bad posture alone. You will look more confident and self-assured. Everyone wants to portray that....I'm sure.

So practice this for your homework folks (even when working out): pull them shoulders back, elongate the neck, stick that chest out and pull that tummy in.

    Yum..."Real" Food!!!

So I found this at Superstore yesterday and wanted to give it a shot: an Advanced Carb & Fat Blocker by Jamieson Natural Sources, which claims it is for use "after" over-indulgence in fatty, greasy, rich foods and needs to be taken 30-60 minutes beforehand. So yet another experiment in Kimmy's lab aka the kitchen.

So yesterday, I indulged in 6 cheddar potato perogies, 2 M&M Meat Shops Maple Salmon Skewers, and one whole grain tortilla chip with salsa. This is what I call "my over-indulgence". I'm sure some of you would disagree but I didn't want to go too crazy if it didn't work. It was so nice to have "real" food again in my system after weeks being on a strict nutritional plan. I even had ketchup & BBQ sauce with the perogies!! It felt so darn good. YES CARBS...oh how I love thee. Let me count the ways.

Conclusions of experiment: After testing the product yesterday, I weighed myself on the Tanita scale mid-day today at 133 lbs with 14.5% body fat and 61% hydration. This meaning that some of the carbs did absorb in my body, hence the slight increase in weight. The fat in the foods I ate yesterday did not get absorbed so it would seem as my body fat has never reached that low of a level, which has to do with the key ingredient of white kidney beans. White kidney beans make you poop, so says Wikipedia.org, which is probably where the fat went. Ya for me!

To recommend or not recommend....that is the question: It worked for me but mind you I eat clean regularly on a strict nutritional plan with moderate to vigorous exercise. I will however say this: try it for yourself and tell me how it goes. I definitely need to conduct another experiment on this since there were different variables at play.

    ______________________________

I saw Joe earlier on in the afternoon and he was so out of it...very zombie-like. I had to make sure I really watched what I said when I was with him. The last thing I wanted was for him to get mad at me. He looked so depressed and sad. That is what the lack of carbs does to a person. He wanted to go treat himself at a restaurant, so the last 3 days his caloric intake was diminishing day by day. So we went to The Round Table with him and the Roomies for his first carb load in 2 weeks. When he received his meal and had his first bite, I could already tell he was feeling 100 times better. It was great seeing him happy again.

It is always nice to treat yourself every once in awhile. Just do not over do it. There are a lot of sacrifices one needs to make when trying to achieve their goals. But having a great support system (friends & family)....people who understand and respect what you are doing is one of the steps to reaching that goal. And just forget about the people who tease and make fun. They are really just envious of your determination and willpower. I kid you not.

There is never an easy way out. There is no miracle drug that is going to make you get to where you need to be by doing absolutely NOTHING.

With anything in life, hard work and dedication is what it takes to be successful.

    Yogi's In Da House

Having went to bed at 4:00 am in the morning, you can only imagine the exhaustion I felt when I was awakened by my alarm clock at 9:30am to get ready for yoga at Assiniboine Park. My body was achy from the non-stop dancing last night at Republic Nightclub, which was crazy fun.

Quickly got ready, met Char nearby and hurried our way to the park so we could get a decent spot. It was a little cloudy at first but boy did the sun ever give it to us good. I was sweating lots, which means pretty much everyone else was too. My yoga mat was even glistening a tad bit. It was quite relaxing. Feeling the energy of the surrounding people, the sights and sounds as well as the breeze around us. I forgot what it was like and now want to get back into it. They were also giving away free passes for the studio, so I'll go check it out and see how that goes. Now yoga isn't new to me as I have done it in the past but not having touched in for years posed quite a challenge.

This is how it goes: I do stretching every single day even if I do not get a chance to go to the gym. People do not know the importance of it and is more or less overlooked. Stretching has shown to decrease stiffness, improve tone in your muslces, increase flexibility, improve circulation, reduce risk of injury, improve posture, is a relaxation mechanism, and improve muscle efficiency and overall body performance. If you are not stretching, you're pretty much as saying to yourself "I don't want to be better. I'm happy staying where I am." Seeing some of the girls ahead of me bend like a pretzel kinda disgusted me yet made me realize the full potential of the human body. Just like anything...things come in time. For you heard it now, Kimmy is going to be able to bend like a pretzel...err..be more flexible...haha. I did have a goal set for this year (as I stated in a previous post) to be able to do the splits. I am almost there. I'm hovering about 5 or 6 inches off the ground.

Only 5 more months to go.

New Breakfast & Meal 2/3 Experiment

Egg whites, melted dry cottage cheese and a handful of blueberries makes for a little treat in the morning, What do you guys think? Only 280 calories too!!!

I did (attempted) HIIT cardio in the back lane this morning and failed miserably. A muscle in my calf started to hurt. I jogged for a bit hoping to release some tension but alas to no avail. It still hurts. I guess I have to take it a little easier today on the cardio side. The last thing I want right now is an injury, How am I supposed to dance tonight at Republic? You tell me ;)

My "fingers" aka serratus are coming out a bit more. It's moreso on the left side of my body. The other side has some catching up to do. More homework for me...yah (sarcastic).

Fun Fact: Stevia, which is derived from a plant, is the best NATURAL sweetener out on the market and is 300 times the sweetness of sugar. Now available as most grocery stores or health food stores, such as Meyers..."smart buyers shop at Meyers". Thought I would throw that in for you Dave lol. It comes in either liquid droplet form or in packets. It even comes in different flavours too, such as Hazelnut, French Vanilla, Chocolate. Go get yours today. I use it everyday.

Here is another experiment: salmon with black pepper, chili peppers, no salt substitute, PC chipotle sauce, garlic powder and lemon juice baked inside a red bell pepper. It was quite delicious. The seasoning absorbed well into the pepper making it really tasty. Can't wait to eat it again in a couple of hours.

Today is chest & shoulder day today. I love this day also. I believe my shoulders are now one of my best assets. I am also working on building my strength in my chest because really....who wants to see those god-awful skelator bones?
    Show of hands anyone???

Yoga in the park tomorrow from 11 am to 1 pm with Charmaine and her buddy. I can't wait. If you're interested, deadline for registration is today and it's $5. I just hope it doesn't rain. Mother Nature, we do not need anymore rain. Please and Thank You.

    Hello Again Blogger!!!

Hello Everyone!!! I'm back again for the first time. This time I'm staying put. Foreal Homeboy (if you do not know where that's from look up "bed intruder" on youtube). Anyways, took a little vacation but now back in full force.

My stats: 130-132 lbs with 15-19% body fat. Exercising 6 days a week with a combination of cardiovascular and resistance training. My daily caloric intake is approximately 1200. I eat 6 meals a day every 2 hour and 30 minutes, which includes my post-workout shake. I drink TONS and TONS of water each day. I take the following supplements: multi-vitamin, omega 3 fish oil, calcium magnesium, vitamin d, vitamin c and a fat burner. I get about 6-8 hours of sleep each night.

I have got a lot of requests from friends & family to do a blog of my diet, exercise and my lifestyle. Last year, I initially made this blogger account mainly for myself: to help me through the tough times in my life by jotting my thoughts. But now I want to help others and motivate people. You can check back on what I've done so far since late last year (with pictures too..eww). There were a lot of ups and downs in my life. If you read through my older posts, you will notice the changes I have made in my self-confidence with the vocabulary I use: Depressing to the opposite end of the spectrum to Empowering. So here we go....

    More meal experiments...what great fun!!!
Breakfast: This morning I had a fruit flavoured protein pancake with a handful of blueberries. It was quite watery and was kind of hard to go down. I definitely needed to drink some agua after that. Will attempt again.

Meal 2 & 3: pan fried salmon with "No Salt" salt substitute, black pepper, lemon juice, garlic powder. A side of veggies (broccoli) to accompany the meal. This experiment was definitely a successful one.

Meal 4: egg white omelet with garlic spread (Mom's Pantry) and red/green peppers. OMG lemme tell you, this was the best meal yet. It was so good I kept on thinking to myself "yummy...yummy...yummy."

Meal 5: dry cottage cheese concoction (cottage cheese, PB, cinnamon & calorie-free chocolate syrup. not a new experiment but still one of my favourite meals of the day. It is such a treat for me. It's my ice cream. Yah I know I'm saying that dry cottage cheese is like a dessert. You all must think I'm nuts. But I'm nuts and healthy :)

Workout for today was obliques and core. I enjoy this day because I know it's one step closer to getting that 6-pack I've always wanted before my off-season begins (end of October). I did 4 exercises with 4 sets. There was one point in my workout where I got quite jealous and intimidated. There were 2 other girls working out upstairs. One was a bodybuilder (muscles everywhere) and the other was maybe about 80% of what that bodybuilder chick had as in muscles. Me...I'm...maybe 20%. Damn. I'm not saying I want to be a body builder but I want to strive for the best form of myself. It's so weird thinking about it now. When I first started working out, all I wanted to accomplish was to shed the pounds. Now, I know I'm not done yet. I'm not done until I say I am. So many people (aka parents) have been telling me that I don't need to workout anymore because I lost all that weight. But it's not just that. Working out & a healthy lifestyle is a HUGE part of my life now and is something that most people do not understand.

It's me against the world. But I think I'm winning!

    It's A Beautiful Day

    Let's see what you missed.

    Earlier on in the week.....

I did another HIIT cardio session but this time at Garbage Hill. It was so difficult sprinting up those inclines. I felt like someone pushed the slow motion button while I was trying to get up the hill. I made it from one end to the other. By the end of it, I felt as though I was going to vomit.

Quickly got ready for a night of good eats. I went to Inferno's Bistro with my trainer. My meal was so delicious but then again I guess I could of said that about anything other than my regular diet foods. We got started off with bread but not just any plain ol' bread but cornbread. It was quite a delight. Frog legs for our appetizer, which had just the right amount of kick to it. Soon came the soup: Tomato Basil. And last but certainly not least, the main course of stuffed chicken breast with a side of butternut squash, broccoli, and a baked potato. I haven't eaten like this in such a long time.

After stuffing our faces at Inferno's, we headed to Baked Expectations for dessert. I had a slice of Peanut Butter Chocolate Cheesecake and my trainer had Carrot Cake. Both were just to die for....at the beginning. Midway, I could not handle the sweetness anymore. Alas, I didn't finish my piece. I felt so bloated and gross after. I felt my body heating up aka metabolism working overtime because it is such a shock to the system. Had some tea to settle my tummy and that was that.

I had my first strip club experience on Thursday. We sat right along the main stage. Once the first girl came out, I immediately took one look and thought "time to hit up the gym hardcore. I've got tons of work to do if I want to look like THAT." I am especially jealous of their amazing bums. I can't get over it. I looked at mine the other day and thought "yah its an okay bum, but it could be better." Needless to say, I left the strip club feeling a little discouraged but again motivated. I also got a free poster and a key chain. Woot woot!!!

I did my HIIT cardio all by my lonesome at the nearby park. I did 10 intervals again. Took a stroll around the block and headed back home. Did some chores around the house. I didn't go out this evening but instead read some "Twilight", which I haven't touched in about 4 months.

Today, I did more chores around the house. In the late afternoon, Chris and Chris picked me up to go to St.Vital park along with Mirah and Nilo. We walked around and took some candid shots. It was such a beautiful day today over looking the Red River. Afterward, we went to get eats at Boston Pizza. I had brought my own food and was super jealous of the nachos and pasta everyone had ordered...ugh...why am I on this diet again? We then decided to go to Noogen's to chill out. Noogen brought out the Adult Loaded Questions yet again. This game is quite a riot. "Being naked at a family reunion...oh ya that wouldn't be too good" says Nilo. The game was short-lived for me since I had to header home. Finished up the laundry and here I am now. I need to start writing on this blog everyday or every other day. It's hard to remember a full week's worth of stuff. I'll put it on my "To-Do" list. Until next time.

End of Week 1 Diet....So Far, So Good

If you must know, I ate quite well at the Viet restaurant. I had Hot & Sour soup as my meal. My family kept offering noodles and their dessert but my willpower kicked in and said "N to the O".

After dinner, I gathering my things and got ready for party-party at Republic. But before going to the bar, I had some of this stuff called Beta-Alamine. This stuff is trippy. It's purpose is instant energy for pre-workout. It worked in about 15 minutes after drinking it. I felt as though everything was in fast forward...my walk, my talk...just everything around me. Not sure if I like that feeling so much. We (Joe, Jody, & Sam) got to the bar around 11:00 pm and sweated it out on the dance floor 'til 1:30 am. I had one heck of a time since I haven't let loose in a good month. I love love love dancing. It is a passion of mine. I may not be the greatest but when I hear a good beat I just need to move. If only I could see myself. I think I would be amused. I danced up on the little side stage for a couple of songs. I even kissed Jody on the lips...TWICE and I liked it LOL. When we got back to the car, we found the passenger window SMASHED. Can you even believe it? Those JERKS. Broken glass everywhere. I felt so bad because it was kind of my idea to go to the bar. All they took was the deck. So the 3 of us had to sit in the back. It was quite a downer of what was supposed to be a great evening. Wa wa waaaa.

Woke up around 1:00 pm (so late). Did chores around the house, went grocery and picked up some stuff I needed for this ol' diet of mine (cottage cheese, almonds, tuna, egg whites and last but not least Diet Dr.Pepper). Baked some chicken for my dinner, which was just delicious and then quickly headed out to Tony Romas with the Superfriends for wings. Damn, the chicken wings smelled so good. I just imagined the taste while I was sipping on my diet 7-up. They all keep making fun of me, my diet and how crazy I am. mL said I will be in 2D sooner or later. I responded back saying "by the end of this you guys won't wanna be friends with me or go anywhere with me." Chris then said "We can just fold you up when we go somewhere." Har Har Har. They are just jealous of my discipline that's what I have to say about that. I know what I want and where I want to be. It's going to take some hard work to get there but I am willing to make that sacrifice. Let's do this. HIIT cardio session #2 tomorrow. Hope I can make it to 10 intervals this time around.

    HIIT was not a Hit

Woke up on Friday and did HIIT cardio for the first time. OMG It is not as easy as it sounds.

Went to the park, which was nearby my house. The first two intervals were okay but when it came to the 6th, 7th and 8th, I felt as though my heart was going to fail on me. HIIT is not for the weak. When I was sprinting, it felt as though my legs were getting ahead of myself if that makes any sense. By the time HIIT was over, I was panting heavily, felt like I was going to vomit and experiencing slight dizziness. Walked it off 'til I got home.

As soon as I got home, I didn't want to do anything but lay down and pass out. Plus the recent lack of carbs was making me depressed. I didn't even want to eat but knew I had to for energy sake. Oatmeal and egg whites yet again. Yum.

Went through my closet and tried on some dresses for potential outfits for the upcoming weekend. I even tried on my birthday dress...awww. Oh the great memories. I would give anything to go back to that glorious day. I still feel so special every time I put it on.

    Went to school...yawn.

Yesterday morning, I was achy all over from the HIIT. Even my abs were sore...weird huh? I was running behind schedule so I had my oatmeal and eggs on the go with my trainer. Where were we headed to u ask? My very first ever Body Building Competition. It was held at the Pantages Playhouse Theater. Saw Brian compete and wow was I ever impressed with all the competitors...both guys and girls. The emotions I felt while seeing them strut their stuff: jealousy, hatred, depressed but motivated. Who knows. Maybe one day I will be up on that big stage getting judged..eek. Got some free swag (free protein brownie bar) but unfortunately forks, I cannot eat it (so says my trainer). Screw u...haha...jk. Don't kill me.

That's all for now. Wish me luck on the next episode called "Kimmy goes to eat at a Viet Restaurant"

    What ever will she do?

    Go Big or Go Home

Well I finished typing up the last blog around 2:30 am last night knowing full well I needed to get up for early morning cardio. I guess I am not Superwoman anymore as I once was because once the alarm went off at 8:45 am, I absolutely did not want to get out of my nice, warm comfy bed. Shortly after, I was awakened by the vibration of my cell phone only to hear the voice of my trainer shouting "wake up now."

No HIIT today because the weather was not permitting. Tomorrow, we shall attempt again. Instead, I did 20 minutes on the elliptical downstairs in my basement and let me tell you I was sweating like a pig...drip..drip..drip. Afterward, did some stretching exercises. I am quite a flexible person I have to say. I never knew I could stretch or go as far into a stretch as I did this morning. I am just surprised. I guess its true what they say sometimes..."mind over matter". Soon I'll be doing the splits. Just you wait and see. Tell you what, once I nailed the splits I will post up a picture of myself doing it. Interesting goal for myself...Yes indeed.

Had my breakfast of oatmeal and egg whites...yummy? Then decided to dust off the ol' memory box. Contents inside: old pictures, letter, certificates, concert paraphernalia, etc. What was once hard to do (looking at pictures with my previous ex) was a breeze for today. It really goes to show that time does heal all wounds. I remember WAY back when it first happened, I'd get advice from friends saying "these things take time." My response - "can't I fast forward?" And now, I've come to that point of where I wanted to be.

Did a workout at Shapes. Circuit weight training and cardio.....yes again!

Talked to Maria for a long while. I told her about my new routine and how my diet is so boring and sad. Lack of carbs = slight depression. She said "Kim, just eat what you want to eat. It won't hurt." I know there is true to that statement with her body and her goals but it's a no-go for me.

Strict diet, exercise and fat burner should give the results I want, which is 10lbs lighter. I did not even falter once today; one of the hardest things I've ever had to do...or should I say not do...haha. My dad even brought home some McDonalds. There is so much junk food here it is not even funny. Too many distraction in this house. I have to keep my eye on the prize. Every little thing counts. I now realize this is going to be one heck of a journey. *grrrrowl - oh that's just my stomach eating itself.

Picture day tomorrow morning but I won't post it up on here since I will be in my undies. Sorry guys...hehe.

*sigh Only 23 more days to go...ugh how I'm counting down and dredging the days ahead. I can do this. Easy. No problem.

    Back For Good

    Hi Everyone,
You missed me? Well I missed you guys too. It's been WAY...I repeat WAY too long since I wrote something on my blog. "THE TIME IS NOW" as someone once said.

New things in my life. Oh let me count the ways. New trainer, new diet, new workout routine. All this for a new and improved Kimmy. Yes, even more so than ever before. Am I Crazy? Just a tad bit.

    Here it goes:
New trainer goes by the name of...well he likes to be Mr.Invisible so let's just call him Bob. Bob designed a new nutritional and workout plan to cater to my needs. The new diet is so boring. Oats, egg whites, tuna, spinach, chicken, more spinach, cottage cheese, protein, almonds and soy beans....Woo Hoo??? I don't know. Started about 4 days ago or so. It's alright thus far but we will see in the coming weeks ahead. FYI: I am currently taking a fat burner to help in my weight loss. I'll keep you guys updated on what I hope to be progress.

Fun Gross Fact: Did you know there is such a thing called "dry cottage cheese"??? And you guys thought regular cottage cheese was gross enough..huh? You're dead wrong...haha.

New workout is going to be one of the hardest I've ever done in my life. It's called "HIIT Cardio" (High Intensity Interval Training). Optimal time for this workout is first thing in the morning....(cue sad music). You burn twice as many calories. Can lose up to 1-3 pounds every couple of days, which is just insane. It goes a little something like this: for 15 minutes, run like there is a monster chasing to kill u. Must give 100% of all the energy you got. Stop when you ABSOLUTELY cannot run anymore. Once you gain a glimmer of the energy back, repeat. Try for 10 rounds. Most don't make it past 4 rounds on the first attempt. I'm hopeful. I may need to pray to god before doing this. "Dear God, please let me live past tomorrow." I'm crossing my fingers that my cough/cold won't interfere too much with the workout. I want to give it my all. So besides this new cardio workout, I want to start biking and running outside again since the weather looks to be getting better. Although, I may be speaking too soon...March usually has one last snow storm. Maybe sneak in at least one trip to the hill for snowboarding, but its highly unlikely that will ever happen....wa wa waaaa. :(

Recently, I re-read all my blog entries dated all the way back from October since the breakup. I did not realize how much of a changed woman I am now compared to that weak, sad-sad girl back then. It made me realize how much I've grown...how much I've learned...how much I've changed all for the better. Jotting down my ramblings really helped through the tough-ass times in my life. So why not continue when I'm content, right? So this is Day 1 of Happy Blog with what will most likely be with a side of drama here and there but what else is new. Wish me luck on HITT Cardio tomorrow. I'll need it.

P.S. Guys are just as confusing as girls. Thought I should let you know. And that's all I am going to say about that. I would need another hour or so to write about the topic...an hour which I don't have since I need to be well-rested for tomorrow.
